Cranleigh Classic Car Show
Sunday 14th August 2016
Fine weather made for an enjoyable cross country journey with the top down. After we had parked up we were approached by people from TIPEC who asked if we would like to join their display of cars.
They were so friendly and hospitable that this really made the day for us. We were parked between a lovely black 968, just like my last Porsche and an immaculate 944. The new Chairman of TIPEC, Jason Gibson, made Diane and I feel very welcome.
TIPEC had almost every model in their display and we later met the driver of a wonderful RSK Spyder which was a successful hill climb car and were also joined by a beautifully restored 356C and a 911 race car - see opposite.
This was a very large event with several thousand cars but there was also lots of family entertainment in terms of stalls and a funfair. We also found an excellent pub on one corner of the Showground, the Hatch Gate, where we had a very good lunch.
We fared very well for tea and biscuits too thanks to TIPEC's hospitality and the weather was so warm that we really needed the shelter from the sun that their gazebo provided.
There was a variety of musical entertainment through the day as well, including an excellent Jazz Band.
Note the exquisite carb linkage in this gem of a car.
Many car clubs were represented at this show including an impressive collection of Cobras.
Classics ranges from moggies to Jaguars and there was a fine display of Karmann Ghias.
This was a really excellent show, well supported by car clubs and with a huge selection on interesting vehicles.
This used to be a regular fixture on the Club's Events List - I hope it is back for next year - we certainly plan to be there on Sunday 13th August 2017.
