Classic Vehicle Restoration Show
5th & 6th November 2016
Report by Martin Burge
Sponsored by Footman James, the Classic Vehicle Restoration Show took place at the Royal Bath & West Showground in Shepton Mallet over the weekend of 5th/6th November.
The show covered everything from completely untouched barn finds to pristine concours standard finished cars. Exhibitors included Classic Car Restoration companies showing their skills and selling cars alongside companies selling parts, accessories and tools for enthusiasts own projects. There was also indoor and outdoor auto jumble, a Charterhouse Classic car auction and the increasingly popular Classic car park which is arguably just as interesting as the rest of the show.
Gerald and I were called on by Vernon to fill the spaces on the stand when Chesil were unable to bring along their new rolling chassis.

There were 3 self-build Speedsters on the stand! Tim Slocombe’s lovely dark blue “Outlaw” Martin & Walker Speedster, Gerald Dawson’s very rare pale blue Covin and my Silver Chesil with freshly rebuilt engine hence the open engine cover to show it off before it gets too oily! Finally breaking up the Speedster fest is Vernon’s beautiful ultra low mileage VW “splittie” van.
Our favourite classic was a gorgeous coach built art deco “airflow” Rover. At the other end of the scale was a barn find Austin 18 York which was for sale as a runner and duly drove off at the end under its own steam!
Next year's show takes place on November 4th & 5th 2017
